AMIP (Asociación de Mujeres Ixq’aniil Palaq ‘Ha’) is a Mayan Indigenous women’s organization from Guatemala founded in 2002 by a Poqomamian indigenous women’s group. AMIP aims to strengthen the rights of indigenous women, strengthen Mayan women’s social and political participation and decision-making, and strengthen the cultural identity of indigenous peoples.
AMIP has partnered with local organizations to strengthen the political participation of indigenous women in elections in the country. They also provide legal advice to indigenous women and have collaborated with municipalities to strengthen indigenous peoples’ rights and the participation of indigenous women in the local authorities. The organization also works with educations that deal with these issues, as well as education in subjects such as natural resource use, the right to self-determination over their land and natural medicine.
